Lohri and Makar Sakranti wishes

Lohri is a popular winter Punjabi folk festival, celebrated on January 13 every year just a day before Makar Sankranti. The Lohri festival signals the end of winter and also marks the culmination of the coldest night of the year. It is also a way of welcoming longer, sunnier days and the sun’s northward journey to the hemisphere, which is also reffered to as Uttarayan. It typically falls on the same date every year (January 13). Lohri is also a way of remembering the sun deity Surya and is celebrated with the lighting of a bonfire, which is considered an ancient tradition . This is as an act to please the fire deity.

Celebrations also include assembling in groups and performing the traditional folk dances – Bhangra and Gidda.

Class 4-Maths Activity "Order of Operations"

A Mathematics activity-"Order of Operations” was conducted for the learners of Stage V- Cambridge International DAV Public School , Pushpanjali Enclave. Each learner was given a sheet to frame a mathematical equation using five numbers and four mathematical operations. Learners came out with several equations . The sheets were collected and passed on , so each learner gets a new equation to solve. All the learners analysed the operations involved and  concluded that BODMAS is simply an acronym to help learners to remember the order of operations in calculations. It stands for, 'Brackets, Order/of, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction.' Thus order of operations while solving an equation was well understood.

It’s your birthday- an activity sheet on the topic Calendar was done in the class III -A where students were suppose to solve problems related to days and dates.
